JUNE I, 1939. fi& ©tSR? Advertisements. 17 ^MIATIO^ P/ONEE** HON. C. S. ROLLS <v* C S. Rolls held No. 2 pilot's certificate which was granted to him in 191c. He was the first Englishman to cross the Channel in an aeroplane and also -*£ the first aviator to make the return journey as well. He did both these in 1910. Later in the same year he was killed at the Bournemouth meeting. The name of Rolls lives and will live in the makers of the famous aero-engines and motor-cars. Shell's name will also hve as one of the most important promoters of aviation. In the early days Shell carried out exploratory work which resulted later in Shell Aviation Service. Nowadays pilots carry with them a Shell Carnet with which they can obtain supplies of Shell fuel and oil and expert service on credit at any Shell station throughout the world.
