VACANCIES exist for unestablished appoint-ments as Examiners in the General En-gineering and W/T and Instrument Branches. kUALIFICATIONS.QlA LL candidates must liave good general education, be able to read drawings, under- stand specifications, use micrometers and other measuring instruments. / A \ Applicants for the General Engineering \J\-' Branch must have had practical ex- perience in an engineering works. An elementary knowledge of materials testing is desirable. /T)\ Applicants for the Instrument Branch *_£>' must have knowledge of physics and training in light engineering or instrument mak- ing. Candidates with knowledge of optical in- struments are also required. /f\\ Applicants for the W/T Branch must \\J/ have practical knowledge of W/T and electrical equipment with technical training in radio communication equal to City and Guilds final examination standard. A PPLICATIONS from candidates previously J\. interviewed and declared unsuccessful will be considered provided the necessary additional experience has been gained. ACCEPTED candidates will undergo a periodof training in inspection as applied to theabove subjects, not exceeding three months, and will be paid £3/10 weekly during training. Sub- sistence allowance of £1/5 weekly during train- ing is payable to married men normally residing outside the training area. On successful com- pletion of training candidates will be appointed as Examiners at a salary of £246/9 per annum (payable monthly in arrear) if service is satis- factory, and must be prepared to serve in any part of the United Kingdom. A PPLICATIONS are invited for a limited J\ number of temporary appointments as Assistant Air Traffic Control Officers for em- ployment at civil airports within the United Kingdom at a salary of £250 per annum. A HHISTANT Air Traffic Control Officers, wheu J\ they have qualified as proficient, will be re- quired to undertake watchkeeping duties under supervision in connection with the operation of scheduled civil air services. CCANDIDATES for appointments shouldJ preferably be between the ages of 35 and 45. Consideration will, however, be given to candidates above the age of 45 who are par- ticularly well qualified and physically fit and to candidates between the ages of 28 and 35 pro- vided they have been or are likely to be re- jected for full combatant military service due to some physical disability which, however, would not be likely to prevent the efficient execution of Air Traffic Control duties. Appli- cants must be able to show that they have qualified as pilots, that they are conversant with the theory of air navigation, and that they have been educated to matriculation standard (the possession of a matriculation certificate is not essential). Experience on twin-engined air- craft types and/or of commercial flying will be regarded as an asset. A LIMITED number of vacancies may occurat a later date for Air Traffic Control Ofticers, Grade III, on a scale of salary of £350 » year, rising by annual increments of £'18 to £500 a year. Assistant Air Traffic; Control Officers who, at the date on which these vacan- cies occur, are below the age of 45 will be eligible to make application for such appoint- ments in competition with other candidates.
