APRIL 4, 1940 Director of Public Relations THE Air Ministry announces that Air Commodore H. Peakehas been appointed Director of Public Relations in the Air Ministry. Wright Duplex Cyclone A SMALL notice in the Civil Aeronautics Journal announcesthe award of a Type Certificate to the new Wright engine:"Wright, Duplex Cyclone GR-3350-A2, 18 cylinders, radial air cooled, 1,700 horse power at 2,300 revolutions per minuteat 6.500-foot pressure altitude." Helsinki Service Resumed DURING the war in Finland air transport was operated regu-larly by the Swedish A.B.A. and the Finnish Aero O/Yfrom Stockholm to Abo and from Stockholm to Vasa via Sundsvall. As from March 18 the Abo line will be extended toHelsinki, as before the war. Departure is from Stockholm at 9.00 daily, arriving at Helsinki 12.25 Finnish time. The Royal Aero Club *- " THE Annual General Meeting of the Royal Aero Club wasX held on the Club premises on Wednesday, March 27th. The Chairman, Sir Lindsay Everard, in the course of his re-marks, referred to the work which the Club was doing in assisting the Air Ministry with information relating to missingand prisoners of war of the air services. The close liaison between the National Aero Club of all countries placed theRoyal Aero Club in a particularly favourable position to obtain this information very quickly. The work of the Royal AeroClub in this connection was much appreciated by the Air Ministry. It was decided not to hold a Committee election this year,and the Committee which was in office at the outbreak ol war should continue until the next Annual Genera] Meeting. TheDuke of Atholl was elected President and the following Vice- Presidents were elected: The Duke of Sutherland ; The Mar-quis of Londonderry; Viscount Wakefield of Hythe; Lord Gorell; Lt.-Col. J. T. C. Moore-Brabazon and Lt.-Col. M. O.Gorman. HOLLAND AND BELGIUM CARRY ON. Three pilots, Capts. Pacco and Bloom, of Belgium, discuss affairs with , Capt. Kooper, of Holland, " Somewhere in England." Wages of Air HostessesA IR hostesses employed by United Air Lines in U.S.A. havelately been given a new wage scale. They will be paid between $110 and $145 per month, that is between £5 and£6 1 os. per week. Instrument-Landing in U.S.A. :. nPHE Civil Aeronautics Authority announce that it is ready-1- to proceed with the installation of ten instrument-landing systems at important airpoits in the United States. Thetype to be installed will be substantially the same as that developed at the Authority's experimental station at Indiana-polis. It is recognised that finality has not been reached on the question of the most efficient system, but the Authoritydesires that air transport pilots shall have the use of cne good system in the very near future instead of delaying thework of installation while research is being carried still further. EQUIPMENT USED. The latest lightweight television transmitter installed in an aeroplane. It operates on a wavelength of 104 centimeters. Similar work has been done in this country, but has been kept secret.
