JULY II, 1940 Advertisements. 13- Two years HARD LABOUR We hardly believe this story ourselves, though we know that the very famous firm concerned is not pulling our legs. Some time ago they put a Mighty Atom 3/16" pneumatic drill on to an automatic lathe for cross drilling small brass components. The lathe spindle was stopped, the tool switched on, fed in and withdrawn, and the whole cycle repeated every 12 seconds. The lathe was working 16 hours out of the 24. They did this as an experiment, having worked out that it was worth it even if the drill only lasted a couple of months (which was what they expected). But the tool was still running perfectly well after two years, and they have assured us that it never failed, and was never given attention—not even oiled! They said that in time and labour (by cutting out an extra setting-up and drilling operation) it saved them £400 a year (about 45 times the cost of the tool). How do we know that they weren't pulling our legs ? Because they bought 6 more Mighty Atoms for similar jobs. TYPE M.I. MIGHTY ATOMPNEUMATIC DRILL. Capacity 3/16". Weight li lbs.
