Act. Flt.-Lt. JAMES ANTHONY LEATHART, who receives the D.S.O.,flew a trainer aircraft to Calais Marck aerodrome to rescue asquadron commander who had been shot down but was un-injured. As he was taking off after the rescuean attack was made by 12 Messer- schrnitt 109's, but he shook off theenemy and landed without damage. Later he flew back to Englandunescorted.
