MAY IST, 1941 FLIGHT •Advertisements. 31ALUMINIUM 01 ACTIVE SERVICE 1 The Attack on H.M.S. ILLUSTRIOUS," a painting by MENDO^A in Peace and War . The supremacy of Britain's Fleet Air Arm owes much to the development of the aluminium industry in peace-time. Designers of these aircraft and aero-engines were ^featly assisted in having at their disposal our research service and a range of alloys which met their demands for lightness and strength. To-day the Nation's needs come first. The demand, we need hardly stress, is for more aluminium for aircraft and still more air- craft. The technical advance made in the production of aluminium should be kept Well in mind by potential users. A metal lc^ was known for its lightness is now, in addition, recognised for its great strength and the corrosion resistance of its alloys. Proof of this abounds. Consider, for example, the aircraft which have taken aluminium into battle — a test which far exceeds in severity the trials imposed in peace-time research. Problems concerning the use of aluminium are continually being investigated in our Research and Development Department. Consultations are invited. 1: ALUMINIUM COMPANY LTD Head Office: Banbury, Oxfordshire • Telephone : Banbury 2244
