The officer was referring to the signal you get when you are over the aerodrome, and we can imagine that after a difficult trip in bad weather it must bring a strong sense of relief, of successful completion. He was expressing his relief because he knew that he was very difficult to fit and he had not been to us before. Yet here was the job most successfully completed. He need not have worried, but then he was not to know of Simpson's long, long experience and pretty "wizard" craftsmanship when it comes to uniforms. And really there's no need to take risks with the ' feel and fit of your uniform, however "difficult" you are.
