A considerable supply ofhard core is also kept handy to fill in the bot-toms of bomb craters. 5. As the surface is pre-pared, coir matting is laid and covered by a wirenetting and steel rod Somerfeld track. Thematting beneath the track gives stability to the run-way in wet weather and spreads the landing-wheelloads over a greater area of ground. 4.
