sleeve - valve engines are the simplest engines in the world to maintain. All complicated overhead valve ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ mechanism is eliminated. There are no tappets to adjust or springs to inspect; servicing is limited to routine inspection of ignition and carburettor. Constant power is always main tained because valve timing never varies and valve bounce is impossible. Undoubtedly the single, sleeve is the most efficient type of valve, and "Bristol" engines represent the supreme example of sleeve-valve efficiency.
