678 SERVICE AVIATION THE KTNG has been graciously pleased to approve the following awards. Air Force Cross Act. Sqn. Ldr. A. F. MAETINDAJLE, R.A.F.V.R.— This officer has rendered outstanding service as a pilot during the last two years. On a recent flight the airscrew and part 0! the engine broke off, but 8qn, Ldr. Martindale recovered control of the aircraft in circumstances of extreme difficulty and effected a perfect landing. Military Medal L.A/C. L. C, SOpTLPV, E.A F.V.R.—This airman, a* a motor driver, took part in the initial landings both in Sicily and in the Salerno sector. On all occasions he was fearless and unflinching in the execution of the tasks allotted to him, however difficult the conditions. His cheerful courage after receiving the serious wounds which cost him the ol his left leg was the admiration of all in (he unit. Fleet Air Arm TIDE KING has been graciously pleased to approve the following award for great cour- ftffi in rescuing the pilot of a crashed aircraft: — B.E.M. (Mil.) Air Mech. 1st CI. G. W. J. GAMON.
