T HE KING has been graciously pleased to give orders for the following promotion in. and appointment to, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in recognition of distinguished services in connection with the operations in Normandy ; — K.B.E. (Mil.) Air Vice-Marshal B. E. M.O., A.F.C.. R.A.F. C.B.E. Air Vice-Marshal L. N. O.B.E., D.F.C., R.A.F. ^HE KING has been graciously pleased to •*- approve the following awards in recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy : — Second Bar to Distinguished Service Order Act. Wing Cdr. J. R. D. BRAHAM, D.S.O., D.F.C., R.A.F.O.—Since .being awarded a Bar to the D.S.O., this officer has taken part in many sorties, including numerous successful attacks on rail targets and on mechanical transport. In air fighting he has destroyed many more euemy aircraft, bringing his victories to at least 29. This officer has displayed the highest quali ties of skill and leadership, and his achievements are a splendid testimony to his courage and fight ing spirit. Bar to Distinguished Service Order Act. Wins Cdr. J. F. BARBON, D.S.O., D.F.C., IJ.F.M.. R.N Z.A.F.. No. 7 Sqn —One night in May, i-*QQ. this officer participated in an attack on an airiiekl at Nantes. By his appreciation of the re sponsibilities entrusted to him and the skill and precision with which he executed his attack. Wing Car. Barron contributed in a large measure to the success achieved. Since being awarded the D.S.O., this officer has taken part in manv attacks on dangerous and difficult targets. He is an out standing captain whose example of^skill, bravery and determination has impressed all." Distinguished Service Order Act. Wing Cdr. C. C. CALDER, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R., No. 158 Sqn.—This officer has com pleted a second tour of operations, and has dis played the highest qualities of skill and gallantry throughout. He has displayed the greatest deter mination in pressing home his attacks and has achieved much success. On one occasion, in an operation against Frankfurt, two engines became unserviceable. In spite of this. Wing Cdr. Calder flew the aircraft back to this country after cleverly outmanoeuvring a fighter which had closed—-to attack. This officer is an" efficient anpVfori ful squadron commander, whosj ship has contributed in •• goj success of the formation hi Act. Wing Cdr. G. II R.A.F.O., No. 151 Sqn.-Tl manded the squadron for mai success. He is a fine leader, whose ability and strong sense of duty have contributed materially to the great fighting spirit of the squadron. Wing Cdr. Goodman is a most tenacious fighter and has shot down at least nine enemy aircraft, three of them at night. He has set an example of the highest order. _ Act. Sqn. Ldr. H. W. B. HENEY, R.N.Z.A.F., No. 582 Sqn.—This officer was the captain of an aircraft detailed to attack Dortmund on the night of May 22nd, 1944. When over the target area the aircraft caught fire, but Sqn. Edr. Heney continued his bombing run. The flames reached dangerous proportions and became a target for Tn6*s^nemy's defences. Nevertheless, Sqn. Ldr, leney^made an effort to extinguish the flames, kthey subsided, turned for home.
