Royal Air Force THE KING has been graciously pleased to approve the following awards in recognition of gallantry displayed in flying operations against the enemy : — Second Bar to Distinguished Service Order Act. Wing Cdr. J. E. JOHNSON. D.S.Q., D.F.C.. 11.A.1 #.It,— Since being awarded a Bar to the Distinguished Service Order, this officer has led large formations of aircraft in many and varied sorties. During these operations, 34 enemy air craft have been destroyed, several of them by Wing Cdr, Johnson himself. He is'a magnificent leader, whose unsurpassed skill and personal courage have inspired all. Wing Cdr. Johnson^ has destroyed at least 28 hostile aircraft. Bar to Distinguished Service Order Act. Wing Cdr. L. A. LYNN, D.S.O., D.F.C., R.AJF.O.—Wing Cdr. Lynn has completed a large number of day and night sorties, during which he has successfully attacked a wide range of strongly defended targets He has maintained a high standard of operational flying, and his genius for leadership has been outstanding His achievements have won great praise. Distinguished Service Order Act. Wing Cdr. P. J. SIMPSON, D.I'C lt.A.FO. -Since being awarded the D.I'.C, on the com pletion of his first tour of operational duty, Wing Cdr. Simpson has commanded two squadrons and taken part in a large number of operational sorties. From September to December, 1943, he led his wing on a series of patrols which accounted for the destruction of at least eight enemy air craft. He was then posted to another Wing, which he led lor four months without the loss o! R single aircraft.' Since the invasion of Franc* this officer has continued to display a fine fighting spirit, and under his courageous leadership the Wrog has destroyed at least 16 enemy aircraft and damaged many others. Act. Sqn. Ldr. R. A. KiPP, D.F.C., H.C.A.F., No. 418 (R.C.A.F.) Sqn.-This officer continues to display the highest standard of skill and gal lantry in air operations. He has completed very many sorties and his careful planning, tactical ability and iron determination have brought him much success. In April, 1944, he led a section of aircraft on a sortie over enemy territory during which lour enemy aircraft were shot down, two of them by Sqn. Ldr. Kipp. On another occasion one night in ALiy, 1944. Sqn. Ldr. Xipp destroyed four hostile aircraft in combat. His genius for leadership has always been apparent, and his example has been most inspiring. Wing Cdr. C. St. G W. CHAPMAN, R.C.A.F., No 162 Sqn.—This officer has completed,* large num ber of sorties and has displayed** high degree skill, courage and devotionJw duty, qualities which were well in evidencsron a recent occa sion when he suecessfully^CTacktfd a TJ-boat. He is an outstanding captain, whose keenness, courage and devotion to duty have set a splendid example. In addition to his work in the air. Wing Cdr. Dunniclifte has shown a high degree of organising ability and great drive, and his untiring efforts have been reflected in the operational efficiency of tin- squad ron he commands. Act. Sqn. Ldr. G BENNETT. D.F.C. No. 405 (R.C.A.F.) Sqn.—As captain of aircraft, Sqn. Ldr. Bennett has taken part in a very large numbci of sorties, during which he has successfully attacked such targets as Berlin Mannheim and Munich. He has displayed skill of a high order. • whilst his unconquerable spirit of determination and contempt for danger have been a notable feature of his efforts throughout. Sqn Ldr. Hen nett has rendered valuable service Act. Sqn. Ldr. R. J. K.
