Blade-shank forming at the de Havilland Forge. Light- alloy propeller forgings, hot from the furnace, are gripped while the shank is upended, 1,000 tons pressure being employed. Thus the grain of the metal is turned in shaping the shoulder to withstand the centrifugal load of the rotating propeller.
