This officer has always shown the greatest courage and resourcefulness, and has Bet a high standard of skill and devotion to duty under adverse conditions. Fit. Lt. H. E. WHITE, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R., No 141 Sqn.—Since the award of the first Bar to the D.F.C., this officer has destroyed three enemy aircraft and damaged one while flying as a night fighter pilot. His skill and daring in thiB capa city have been outstanding. On one sortie while patrolling near Aachen, he destroyed a Me. 109, which exploded so near sad with each brilliance that he was blinded for some moments. He has completed a large number of operational missions Bar to Distinguished Flying Cross Act. Wing Cdr D. W. 8. CLARK, D.F.C., R A.F.O , and Act Sqn. Ldr. J. R. Dow, D.F.C., R O.A.F., both of No. 635 Bqn.-One night in August, 1944, these officers were pilot and navigator respec tively of an aircraft detailed to attack Stettin. On the bombing run the aircraft was hit and severely damaged ty anti-air craft fire. One engine was rendered unserviceable and the aircraft was diffi cult to control. Nevertheless, by cool thinking and excellent co-operation, these officers made a successful attack on the target and bronght the aircraft safely back to base. Wing Cdr. Clark and Sqn. Ldr. Dow have completed very many sorties, and have at all times dis played exceptional skill and courage. Wing Cdr. G. T. B. CLAYTON, D.F.C., R.A.F.O., No, 576 Sqn.-For the past seven months Wing Cdr. Clayton has commanded a heavy bomber squadron. Under his leadership the squadron has acquired a high degree of skill and keenness. He has flown on many diffi cult and hazardous operations, operating against the enemy in light bombers and night fighters as well as in heavy bombers. The success achieved by this officer is proved by the flue work com pleted by his squadron during the past months. Act. Wing Cdr. J. tVooDEOPPE, D.F.C., R.A.F., No. 61 Sqn.-Wing Cdr. Wood- roffe has largely contributed to the successes of his flight by his skill and enthusiasm at all times. Both in the air and on the ground he has set a splendid example, and his leadership is of a high order. As captain of aircraft he has completed operations against targets in Berlin, Leipzig, Nuremberg and Sohweinfurt. lie has also per formed his duties with outstanding com petence and resolution during attacks on small targets necessitating the greatest bombing accuracy. Act. Sqn. Ldr. D. K. ALLPOKT. D.S.O., D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R., No. 35 Sqn.—This officer has completed many sorties with a most successful orew. Throughout ail hi» missions, 8qn. Ldr. AJlport has shown the utmost determination to reach his objective and preBs home the attacks from a very low level regardless of opposition. By his skill, courage and coolness under fire, this officer has gained the complete confidence of his crew, and his fine fighting spirit has set a valu able example to other aircrews in the squadron. Blair has participated in further numerous sorties against heavily de fended fbjectives with outstanding success. This officer has proved himself at all times to be a navigator of exceptional skill and ability. He has shown the utmost zeal and devotion to duty. His accurate navigation and coolness under enemy flre are worthy of the highest praise. CAMPBELL, R.A.F.V.R., No. 39 Sqn.—This airman has proved himself to be a valiant and devoted member of aircraft crew. He has participated in many sorties, including numer ous attacks on enemy shipping, and throughout has displayed a high standard of navigational ability. In June, 1944, when over a target in Northern Italy, his aircraft was struck by frag ments of shell which started a fire. Fit. Sgt. Campbell was wounded, but, despite this, he succeeded in extinguishing the outburst. He afterwards navigated the aircraft home in the face of great difficulty Towards the end of July, 1944, this airman was again a member of a crew detailed for an air operation. During the mission his aircraft was damaged by anti aircraft fire. A fire started, but he extinguished it. Although deprived of the full use of navigational aids he guided his pilot safely home.
