Sutherland is an air gunner with a fine operational record. He has participated inthe destruction of seven enemy aircraft and dam- aged one. Three have been destroyed since theaward of the D.F.C. His aircraft has been in combat on other occasions, and his accurategunnery and coolness under fire have been out- standing. In July, 1944, the bomber in which hewas flying was attacked five times by enemy fighters near Stuttgart. This officer assisted indestroying two of them and driving off the re- mainder.
