Bar to Distinguished Service OrderAct. Wing Cdr. J, R. BALDWIN, D.S.O., D.F.C. R.A.P.V.R.—Wing Cdr. Baldwin was appointedwing commander (Flying) of a wing in June, 1944. He has, in atldition to planning the majorportion of the operations undertaken by the wing, led over 100 successful wing and squadronmissions, directed against a wide variety of tar- gets. These have included enemy tanks, railwaycommunications and shipping, and enemy gun posi- tions menacing our troops. Under his brilliantleadership, the wing has destroyed or severely dam- aged over 800 fighting vehicles, thus contributingin no small measure to the rout of the enemy in the FalaiM' (jap. Wing Cdr. Baldwin has destroyedthree enemy aircraft in combat since the in- vasion, bringing his total victories to at least16 dettroyed. Immediately prior to the invasion, he planned anil completed the operations againstenemy li.i.Lir installations, which paved the way lor tiu hmviipi: ol our forces by enabling them to achieve complete surprise. Throughout thisperiod WTing Cdr. Baldwin has v planned in a masterly manner and led brilliantly a vast numberof missions, many of which have been in direct support of the Army and have decisively affectedthe course of the battle. Distinguished Service Order Squ. Ldr N. BIOKNELL, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R-TliU officer has completed » very large number ot sorties since being awarded the D.F.C. Many ofhis assignments have necessitated flights far into enemy territory, often in adverse weather. He hasat all times displayed the highest standard of skill and resolution and his example has been wellreflected in the efficiency and success of his flight. This officer has rendered exceptional service. Act. Sqn. Ldr. G. E. FAWKE, D.F.C.. R.A.F.V.R.,No. 617 Sqn.—This officer has completed a very large number of sorties, many of them againstdangerous and difficult targets. He has shown ths greatest determination in pressing home hisattacks, often in the face of bitter opposition. and the accuracy of his bombing has been provedby the excellent photographs taken. This officer has displayed exceptional leadership, great cour-age and zeal. His record is outstanding. Act. Sqn. Ldr. C. D. KEI«, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R..No. 9 Sqn.—Since being awarded the D.F.C this officer has completed many successful sorties. Hehas continued to displav the highe-st standard of courage and resolution and his sound leadership,godd judgment and great skill have greatly im- pressed all. In addition to his wort in the air.Sqn. Ldr. Keir has rendered yoeman service in the training of other members of the squadron. Act. Son. Ldr. MCKEASD, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R..No. 692 Sqn.—This officer has completed a very large number of sorties, involving attacks on awide range of heavily defended targets in Ger- many. He has displayed conspicuous gallantryand determination in pressing home his attacks and has set an example of a high order. Hisachievements have been worthy ol the highest praise. Act. Sqn. Ldr. .1. W. PERRY. D.F.C.. R C.A.F..No. 405 1H.C.A.F.) Sqn.—This officer is = highly efficient pilot and captnin of aircraft lie hascompletea two tours of operational duty during which he has attacked a wide varie.ty of enemytargets. His successes are a splendid tribute to his outstanding ability, great personal courage andiron determination. His example both in the air and on the ground has been most inspiring. Act, Sqn. Ldr. G. L. MANDENO, D.F.C..R.AF.V.R,. No. 139 Sqn.—This officer has set a fine example of skill and gallantry in operationsagainst the enemy. He has completed a very large number of sorties including 12 attacks on the German capital. He has displayed courage anddetermination of a high order. Fit. Lt It. A. BKOWN D.F.M., R.A.F.V.B.. No578 Sqn.—This officer has completed a second tour of operational duty during which he has attackedmany heavily defended targets in Germany. Throughout he has displayed the highest standardof skill and gallantry, qualities which have in- spired all with whom he has flown. He is a mostefficient, flight commander whase fine leadership and unswerving devotion to duty have contributedin good measure to the success of the formation he commands Act. Sqn Ldr. J. A. HARRISON, D.F.C.,R.N.Z.A.F., No. 76 Sqn.—This officer has com- pleted two tours of operational duty, during'it *whidi he has attacked a wide variety of targoT*. m many ot them far into enemy territory. He hasset a magnificent example of skill, gallantry and devotion to duty, qualities which have been wellillustrated in the high standard of operational efficiency of the flight he commands. On a recentoccaskm, Sqn. Ldr. Harrison led a large formation of aircraft in an attack against Scholven Buor.By his outstanding skill this officer contributed in good measure to the results obtained. Act. Sqn. Ldr. A. W. G. COCHRANE D.F.C.,R.N.Z.A.F., No 156 Sqn.—This officer has dis- played the highest standard of skill and couragein operations against the enemy. He lias com- pleted a very large number of sorties, involvingattacks on a wide range of enemy targets and throughout has displayed outstanding determina-tion and devotion to duty. On a recent occasion. Sqn. I.dr. Cochrane participated in ari attack onthe airfield at Eindhoven. His accurate and determined bombing in the face of concentratedanti-aircraft fire set a very fine example. His achievements have won great. praise- Act. Sqn. Ldr. B. A. BUBBRIDGE, D.FC. R.A.F.V.R.. No. 85 Sqn.Fit Lt. F. S. SKELTON, D.F.C. R.A.P.V.R., No. 85 Sqn.These officers are pilot and observer of aircraft respectively They have completed a very largenumber of sorties and throughout have displayed keenness and devotion to duty of the higheststandard They have destroyed 14 enemy aircraft, four of them during a recent sortie at night. Thisfeat well illustrates their superb skill and unbeat- able determination. Act Fit Lt. P. L. TJ. CROSS. D.F.C..R.A^F.V.R., No. 139 Sqn.—This officer has set a fine example of keenness and devotion to duty. *He has participated in a very large number of sorties, most of which have been against suchheavilv defended targets as Berlin.
