162 FLIGHT FEBRUARY 8TH, 1945 PLAYTIME IN N.W. EUROPE : R.A.F. Tempest pilots hitch their sledge to a jeep on a snow-covered airfield. RANGER, R.A.F.V.R.—L.A/C.Ranger was infiltrated by parachute to the Epirus area in Greece on June 11th, 1943. Hewas placed in charge of a wireless set and later moved to Area -fl.Q. as wireless operator and re-mained in that capacity until August, 1944. During the period October. 1943. to Jannary,1944, L.A/C. Itanger operated his wireless set very close to tli« Germans. On October 31st, 1943.when the British H.Q., in the village of Laflna, was hemmed in, L.A/C. Ranger assisted to dis-mantle the wireless Ret, load the mules under fire, and taking advantage of cover led his partof the convoy to safety Later in the morning of the same day whilst operating the wireless setin the open, he came under cross machine gun fire, but once niore he played a leading part insaving the equipment.
