Military Awards THE KING has been graciously pleased toapprove the following awards; — Military Cross F/O. S. W. R. HAESIS (B.A-F.V.R.). R.A.F.Regt.—On Sept 27th, 1944, F/O. Harris accom- panied by two airmen, drove a jeep into the forwardareas. As the party entered the village ol Stra- done they were_ fired at by snipers and eompelltitto leave the joep and take corer in a nearby building. Shortly aitcrrwarda teor army stretcherbearers were also compelled to take cover close bv. The enemy fire continued. F/O. Harris kd thetwo parties from the rear oJ the building in an attempt to get ckar oJ the danger area. As theyreached the main road heavy mortar fire was encountered; F/O Harris was sCTionsiy woundedin th* chest. All otheT members ol hit party, with the exception of a corporal, were wounded andsome were unable to walk. F/O. Harris, assisted by the uninjured corporal, walked ba«k to thevUlage and retrieved the jeep. Having been assisted into the seat, F/O. Harris drove tlievehicle back to the nearest field dieseine station some four miles avay. On arrival, F/O. Harri»collapsed from loss ol blood and the intense pain he had suffered. The outstanding coarftg^. lortitude and devotion to duty displayed by this officfr are worthj of high praise. F/O. A. I. MITCHELL (R.A.FV.R.y, R.4J-Regt.—On September 29th, 1944, whilst onjT tachment with the Oxfordshire and Buck*;*^shire Light Infantry in Sooth Mayu RatSj£ officer accompanied an assault party ia aVrtf»u an enemy position. On October 2nd, 1944, he was attached to a platoonof the service regiment which was detailed as a lighting patrol in the area O€ Sunia MarparaPimples. The patrol «as repeatedly attacked by superior forces and eventually surrounded.
