Gronp Gapt H. S. L. DUNDAS, D.S.O.,D.F.C,' A.A.F.—Since the award ol the Distin- guished Service Order, Group Capt. Dundas has leda large number of operational sorties, many of which have been extremely difficult and hazardousmissions. He has played an important part in developing the technique of low-level cannon andmachine gun attacks irr adverse weather for the close support of forward troops. In December,1944, he led three formations ol Spitfire aircraft, in extremely poor visibility, to attack enemy posi-tions in the Bagnacavallo area. The nearest point ol the attack was less than 100 yards from ourlorward troops. The operations were so successful that the Canadian attack which followed immedi-ately captured the position with only slight losses. Excellent results have been achieved in many otherattacks led by Group Capt. Dundas. His judgment, keenness and courage have been outstanding onall occasions. Act. Group Capt. W. G. G. D. SMITH, D.S.O.,D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R.—Following a fine record in Fighter Command, Group Capt. Smith has led afighter wing in the invasion of Sicily and in opera- tions over Southern Italy. Tile high measure rrfSUCCESS achieved by the squadrons und*r bis com m&nd has been largely attributableto the boldness and soundness of his leadership. Since he took overcommand of his wing, 85 enemy aircraft have been destroyed incombat and many others damaged. Group Capt. Smith lias taken animportant part in the successes thus achieved. He has destroyedin all 14 enemy aircraft and a large number of transport vehiclesand locomotives. As an opera- tional commander, Group CaptSmith has rendered extremely valuable and devoted service. Announcemen ts On nve occasions he has flown bisaircraft safely back to base on one engine He has been employed onoperational flying since the out break of war and has set. a veryhigh standard of morale and keen- ness. Act. Wing Cdr. P. H. WOODRUFF. D.F.C., R.A.F.O. (since de ceased).—This officer has shownthe • very highest qualities of leadership, courage and devotion toduty. He has led his wing on numerous hazardous missions, andon these sorties has shared in the destruction of two Heinkel Ills onthe ground and at least two com plete trains, 11 engines -and many'other railway and transport vehicles. Hisv determination inpressing home his attacks against ground targets defended by ex-tremely intense and accurate anti- aircraft tire has instilled confidencein the pilots of the squadron and has resulted in a high standard ofefficiency and morale. His leadership,daring and determination have been of great value to his squadron.Act. Sqn. Ldr. A. JACQTJES, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R., No. 235 Sep.—This officer has completed two tours of operational duty. He hastaken part in numerous anti-ship- ping patrols and has destroyedthree aircraft in air combat. At all times he has displayed greatcourage and devotion to duty. Act. Sqn. Ldr. P. L. PARROTSD.F.C., R A.F.O., No. 72 i Sqn. Ldr. Parroti is now eon his second operational tourf^/ the Mediterranean area. He has also completed1 aprevious tour from England. Since the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross he has completednumerous sorties and has destroyed at least one enemy aircraft. He has led his squadron with skilland determination. During the landing at Anzio, his formation engaged and drove off a large numberof enemy fighter-bombeT attacks, contributing materially to the successes achieved by his sauad-ron. In all, Sqn. Ldr.
