Elevators are fabric covered and follow conventional lines in construction; they are the only control surfaces on the aircraft to have controllable trim tabs, these being operated by a vernier drum in the cockpit with cables to gear boxes from which chains give positive drive. The wing presents various unorthodox features, the chief of which is the joint in the wing spars occurring about half- way along each span. Since no design or production advan- tages are to be gained, this measure would seem to indicate either a limitation in the availability of extrusion lengths or limitation in milling bed lengths. With the joints. both spars are continuous throughout the span in the Focke Wulf 190 manner, and should either side sustain damage the entire wing together with the- integral front fuselage would need to be replaced. The front spar is at 32 per cent, root chord and 27 per cent, tip chord throughout the span, and the rear spar at 65 per cent, root chord and 64 per cent, tip chord. Neither upper nor lower wing surfaces between spars and forward of the front spar are concerned with beam bending. Surface Finish Surfaces of the wing, like those of the fuselage, a*f verysmooth.
