SERVICE AVIATION Royal Air Force and IS!aval Air Arm News and Announcements Appointments Naval Air Staff Capt. CHARLES E. LAMBE, C.B., C.V.O., R.N.,has been selected to succeed Acting Rear-Admiral L. D. Macintosh, D.S.O., D.S.C., as AssistantChief of the Naval Staff (Air) in August, 1945, and is granted the acting rank of Rear-Admiralwhilst holding the appointment. Acting Rear-Admiraf MACINTOSH will succeedRear-Admiral A. R. M. Bridge, C.B.E., as Flag Officer Carrier Training and Administration inSeptember, 1945, and will continue to serve in the acting rank of Rear-Admiral. Air Vice-Marshal.Air Vice-Marshal Inglis has been engaged on intelligence work since 1936, having been adeputy director of intelligence, then director, and latterly, assistant chief of the Air Staff (Intelli-gence), which post he has held since October, 1942. Air Vice-Marshal Elmhirst has been air officer incharge of administration at H.Q., 2nd T.A.F. since November, 1943. He previously held a similarDost with the T.A.F., N.W. Africa and Air H.Q., Libya, and was Air Officer Commanding H.Q.,Hypt in 1941. In December, 1940, he was a member of the Military Mission to Turkey. Royal Air Force THE KING has been graciously pleased toapprove the following awa-rds in recognitionof gallantry i nd devotion to duty in the execution of air operations: — Bar to Distinguished Service OrderAct Wing Cdr. R. H. HARRIES, D.S.O., D.F.C., R \ F V R —This officer has been engaged inoperational flying since 1940 and has destroyed at least 20 enemy aircraft. He has been opera-tions wing commander of his wing throughout the strenuous period which followed the invasion ofNormandy. During this time Wing Cdr. Harries took part in numerous long escort sorties and inbombing and close support missions. Since the award of the D.S.O., he has destroyed one enemyaircraft and damaged others. Under all circum- stances, in the face of adverse weather and heavyenemy opposition, he has displayed outstanding leadership and gallantry.Wing Cdr. G. C. KEEFER, D.S.O., D.F.C., R.C.A.F.—Since his appointment as wing com-mander operations, Wing Cdr. Keefer has led and trained his wing to a high pitch of keennessand efficiency. Under his leadership, the wing has destroyed 191 enemy aircraft and damagedmany more. In addition, a great variety of enemy ground targets have been successfully attacked.During this period, Wing Cdr. Keefer has destroyed fqur enemy aircraft in the air, bringinghis total victoiies to 12 aircraft destroyed. He has also destroyed at least 60 enemy transportvehicles. ]n April, 1945, he completed a daring attack on eleven Messerschmitt 109s, assembled onan airfield ao Parchin. Despite intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire the attack was pressedhome and all the enemy aircraft were destroyed. This officer has completed three tours of operastional duty and has proved himself to be a leader of the highest order and a cool and fearless pilot. Distinguished Service Order F/O. K. V. PANTER, R.A.F.V.R.-This officerhas completed a very large number of sorties against a wide variety of targets. In attacks onthe enemy's railway system, he has been respon- sible for the destruction of three locomotives. Onone occasion he attacked an industrial building south of Gonrney. setting it on fire. In February,1945, F/O Panter took part in an attack on various enemy airfields. Whilst attacking theairfield at Landau his aircraft was engaged by a superior force of enemy fighters and sustainedvery .seve.e damage. A little later the aircraft was hit by fire from the ground defences. Itbecame necessary to abandon the aircraft. The navigator had apparently been hit and was dazed.In most difficult circumstances F/O. Panter coolly assisted his comrade to leave the aircraft beforejumping himself. F/O. Panter came down safely in enemy country and was captured. He wasreleased when Frankfurt vtas captured by the Allies. On this occasion his example of courage-and resolution were well in keeping with that which ho has shown throughout his tour ofoperational duty. Act. Sqn. Ldr. F. W. LISTER, D.F.C.,R.A.F.V.R., No. 127 Sqn.—During his second tour of operational duty, this officer has participatedin all types of fighter sorties against the enemy. He has shown conspicuous bravery on fighterpatrols, escort missions and in attacks on enemy mechanical transport, rolling stock and barges.Sqn. Ldr. Lister was shot down and wounded early in his second tour of duty. Undeterred,
