J. G. KEEP, D.F.C., R.A.F.V.R , No. 121 Wing.—This officer has completed numer-ous operational sorties. In May, 1944, whilst attacking targets in Normandy, his aircraft wasshot down and he was wounded. Since returning to operations in February, 1945, he ha» led his•wing with great gallantry and dis Unction, inflicting much damage onthe enemy's lines of communica- tion. Radar installations, closesupport, targets and Headquarters. Much opposition from the enemyhas been encountered during this period. Wing Cdr. Keep hac, atall times, displayed outstanding courage, and lias achieved excellent results. Act. Wing Odr. W. L. THOMAS.IF.C, R.A.F. (Lt.. The Manches ter Ilegt. (T.A.)), No. 156 Wing.-This officer has operated in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Europe.In Sicily and Italy he attacked enemy road and rail transport,qften in difficult mountainous country. In October, 1944, heparticipated in an attack on the Gestapo barracks at Aarhus, Denmark. His aircraft was badly damaged and was forced to makean emergency landing. On another occasion, in April, 1945, heattacked Pritzw&lk railway yards and destroyed two trains by hit-ting an ammunition train. His aircraft was damaged, and WingCdr Thomas was forced to return to base with only one engine func•tioning. He has at all times »hown a hrgh standard of courageand devotion to duty. Act. Sqn. Mr. P. R.A.F.V.R., H.Q., Special Air Service Troops.—This officer has been attached to H.Q., Special Air Service Troops, since its for-mation, as R.A.F. Liaison Officer. He accom- plished most valuable work, during the pre-paratory stages in training the Special Air Service troops for parachuting. In June, 1944, Sqn.Ldr. Smith operated with the French Special Air Service troops in Brittany, wliere he achievednotable success in liaison with the French units. Subsequently he put an American Armed Divisionin contact with the French Battalion operating • m that district. In August, 1944, this officer setout from Normandy and delivered ten armoured jeeps to a French Parachute Battalion operatingGouth of the Loire. This entailed penetrating the er.emy lines, and it wsts largely through his initia-tive and skill that the mission was accomplished successfully. More recently Sqn.Lclr. S-mith has served with the Belgian Special Air Service troopsand has accomplished most valu- able work "with them. Throughoutall these operations this officer has been the sole British representa-tive working with Allied units, and by his courage and .coolness inaction he lias gained the admira- tion of all those with whom hehas served. Act. Sqn. Ldr. W. P. KEMP,D.F.C., R.N.Z.A.F., No. 487 (R.N.Z.A.F.) Sqn,—Sqn. Ldr. Kemphas participa-ted in macy hazard- ous sorties. He has destroyedmuch enemy road and rail trans- port, and has always volunteeredfor the most dangerous and diffi- cult missions, in spite of enemyopposition and adverse weather. Since the award of the D.F.C.,Sqn. Ldr. Kemp has completed many day and night intruder sor-ties. He is now on his third tour of operational duty, and, through-out, has displayed high qualities of courage, leadership and devo-tion to dutv. Distinguished Flying Cross F/O. J. W.
