URCRAF T C L 600 $00 «» sw 1000 YARDS 1200 METRES 1400 1600 1800 2000 1200 2200 DISTANCE 2000 TAKE-OFF At its maximum all-up weight of 47,000 lb., 21319 kg., the AMBASSADOR complies with all the proposed I.C.A.O. safety requirements. Should an engine fail on take-off the AMBASSADOR can climb comfortably away after covering a distance of 850 yds., 777 m., from the start of its run. Alternatively, it can be re- landed, after reaching safety speed, within an "accelerate-stop" distance of 1,550 yds., 1417 m. In I.C.A.O. take-off failure conditions—with the undercarriage up, but with the propeller of the dead engine still windmilling—the AMBASSADOR'S rate of climb is 385 ft./min., 1,96 m./sec, increasing to 525 ft./min., 2,66 m.jsec, when the propeller has been feathered. Even with the undercarriage fully down and the propeller windmilling, the climb-rate is still 190 ft./min., 0,97 m./sec. The " cruising threshold " ceiling with one engine inoperative is 11,500 ft., 3505 m. This performance is possible because of the AMBASSADOR'S low wing-loading— 39.2 lb./sq. ft., 191,39 kg.jm.2—its moderate power-loading and ample rudder control at low speeds.
