B.Wheeler, D.F.C., of the Department of the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Train-ing), who will advise on'the current trend of armament development in U.K. Theaircraft will fly out via Goose Bay to'lhe K.C.A.F. station at Ottawa. DuringOctober it will visit some ten U.S.A.A.F. stations and training establishments. Itwill then return to Ottawa on November ist, after which it will visit the R.C.A.F.Unit at Goose Bay and make, it is hoped, an additional call at Trenton, Toronto,before leaving for Prestwick. Staff ConferenceT HE conference of W.A.A.F. StaffOfficers at Westfield College, Lon- don, was opened on September 18th bythe Chief of the Air Staff, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Lord Tedder, whoemphasized that air forces and air power were the first line of defence of this coun-try and that the R.A.F. included the W.A.A.F. He paid tribute to theVV.A.A.F. personnel who during the war had often insisted on staying on duty inhalf-wrecked buildings and in some in- stances had set an example to the menthemselves. Lord Tedder said that the W.A.A.F. would be an essential part ofthe Air Force of the future and could be a stabilizing and steadying influence onthe Services as a whole, and, therefore, had a tremendous responsibility to theR.A.F. GOODWILL TOUR : The aircrews who manned the three Sunderlands of No. 230 Squadron which recently left Colshot for a goodwill tour of Scandinavia. Horticultural Show HPHE Royal Air Force annual horticul--*- tural show will be held in the Royal Horticultural Society's Hall, VincentSquare, Westminster, on Wednesday, October ist. It will be open free to mem-bers of the R.A.F. between 2 and 6.30 p.m. and to the general public after 4p.m. All R.A.F. Stations having uni: gardens will send exhibits of vegetablesand some will send fruit. The first prize, for a collection of twelve varieties ofvegetables (not lesS than six kinds), will be the Royal Horticultural Society'ssilver challenge cup, which will be held by the winning station for a year. TheR.A.F. Unit Gardens Trophy, for the best garden judged from the airmen'smessing point of view, will also be pre- sented during the show. It has been wonthis year by R.A.F. station Cosford, witJ) H.Q. Unit, Bomber Command, andR.A.F.
