Flight, October 30th, 1947 The Avro Tudor IV ACHIEVEMENT " British South American Airways has accepted its first Avro " Tudor IV " which will become standard equipment for the BJ5.A.A. service through the Caribbean and along the west coast of South America. On a flight which started at the normal gross weight of 80,000 lb., the Tudor IV attained .985 nautical miles per gallon at 252 m.p.h. at 41 per cent of available horse-power. B.S.A.A. gives 12,915 lb. as the Tudor IV's payload on the South Atlantic route. Assigning an average of 7,880 lb. for 32 passengers and baggage, this leaves 5,0351b. for cargo and mail."
