The Dutchaccepted the flooding of the •land as a necessity, though one resultmany months inundation bv sea water was that every tree on the island died.Now the Royal Air Force is assisting to replant the elms and limes that were afeature of the town and village squares before the war. A tree planting ceremony has beenarranged by the Netherlands Government to take place on the island on Novem-ber 4th and from the Royal Air Force Central Fund a gift, representing thecost of 320 trees, has been made. The R.A.F. will be represented at the cere-mony by Air Marshal Sir Alan Lees, K.C.B., Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Re.serve Command.
