JANUARY 8TH, 1948 in the R.A.F.; Constance is married toan Americao; and Dorothy is in the Land Army. LoTd Sempill, Air CommodoreSir Adrian Cliamier and the late Kath- le n, Countess of Drogheda, weretrustees. ; A Fatiguing Business y A RIG for fatigue-testing ©firscrew/'blades has been developed by Jre Havilland vibration engineers. Resemb-ling an oversize two-blade airscrew hub, the rig is capable of imposing loads andvibrations whereby permissible stress levels can be determined and has thevery valuable quality that it makes pos- sible the obtaining of information fromstationary blades which, in the past, has needed a rotating airscrew. Thus the•^^complications of power-plant, space, ^ftoise, and inaccessibility during test areswept away by this new departure. Needless to say, the various orders ofvibration are synthetized by artificial excitation, but the effect of centrifugalloads is produced in the hub by an internal hydraulic pressure of 6,000lb/sq in. Flyipg in New Guinea - •T HE Bnstol Freighter which has beenused by Qantas to supply the Bulolo g<51dfield in New Guinea has com-pleted its tour of duty. Fly- ing in N#w Guinea, is hampered by tur-bulent clouds which build up in the afternoon, and by hea^y rain at night.
