Jet Noise A CERTAIN uneasiness has been pro-moted by press articles on thealleged physical effects of flying turbo- jet aircraft and of work on turbo-jet testbeds. According to information from the Directorate-General of Medical Ser-vices, Air Ministry, R.A.F. pilots of jet aircraft do not complain of noise in theair, apart from alight transitory fatigue and deafness. Most of the complaintsconcerning noise are from personnel en- gaged on servicing and running up jetunits on test. "On present evidence, obtained from ground measurements," itis stated, "there is no reason to expect injurious results to «;"ots from flying jet-propelled aircraft.' ,^ken special measuring equipment canbf^pferfocted, the order of vibration and noise frequencies and intensities and oftheir possible effect on animals or man will be investigated. Pending develop-ment of this apparatus, work has begun at the R.A.F. Institute of AviationMedicine, Farnborough, Hants, on the development of instruments which willbe ready for air trials during the coming summer and which will be used inapplied physiological studies.
