The intensive test programme of "Bristol" engines includes long-endurance running under the severest overload conditions , a customary development run being 50 hours at take-off power. Non-stop runs of several hours duration are frequently carried out at powers 20% or more above the declared maximum, and finally the complete unit undergoes a flight test programme of at least 200 hours in the air.
