Mr. Truran came to Boscombe Down from Martle-sham and at the outbreak of the war joined the R.A.F. and has remained atthe A. and A.E.E. ever since. He finished as a Wing Commander with the A.F.C.jnd at the end of the war took up his appointment of senior handling technicalofficer. Cockcroft, director ofthe atomic energy research and develop- ment establishment at Harwell, has beenawarded the James Alfred Ewing Medal by the Institution of Civil Engineers forhis contributions to the science of en- gineering in the field ol research * * * The Manchester Oil Refinery, Ltd., hasdrawn up a scheme of reorganization in- volving the formation of a new holdingcompany—Refinery (Holdings), Ltd.— which will acquire the shares of the Man-chester Oil Refinery, Ltd., in exchange for its own shares. The chairman ofPetrochemicals, an associated company said recently that he welcomed develop-ments of plants producing chemicals from petroleum as an important contri-bution to the economic future of the country.
