Flight, October 21st, 194S. NEW TRAINER WITH A LONG MEMORY It was in 1917 that work leading up to this latest Avro trainer really began. For it was then that we built the first of the world's training aircraft, and we have been building and improving trainers ever since. All that we have learnt about their design and construction in thirty years of continuous development has gone into the making of the Avro Athena. Built to Air Ministry specificatiori, the Athena is an advanced trainer of high performance and fighter manoeuvrability. There are alternative types; the Mark 1 is powered either by an Armstrong Siddeley 1,000 h.p. propeller turbine Mamba or a Rolls-Royce Dart, and the Mark 2 has a Rolls-Royce Merlin 35.
