Appointments THE Air Ministry announce:Marshal Sir Arthur P "K.B.E., C.B., is to succeed Air Chief Marshal Sir James Robb as Vice of Air S Marshal /Sanders took over command of the British Air Forces of Occupa- tion in Germany December, befo: which he was Com- mandant of the R.A.F. Staff College for two years. Air Marshal Sanders, who is 50, received his permanent com- mission in 1919. He will bd succeeded as C.-iii-C. by A.V-M. T. M. O.B.E., M.C., D.F.C acting rank of Air Marshal. Also announced is the appointment of A.V-M. R. O. Jones, C.B., A.F.C., as Senior Air Staff Officer of R.A.F. Re- serve Command. The appointment is a visible indication of Reserve Command's increasing prominence in the pattern of Britain's air defence, as it is the first time that the post of S.A.S.O. has been held in the Command since its formation in 1946. A.V-M. Jones will be respon- sible to his C.-in-C. for flying training, intelligence, operations planning, and operations of the Command. A. Cdre. G. E. Nicholetts, A.F.C., who for two years has commanded the R.A.F. Central Photographic Establish- ment at Benson, has been appointed Director of Organization, Air Ministry. Tunner remains at Wiesbaden. The two air forces retainseparate administrative control over their own airfields. Hyde Park Flypast •piGHTERS of R.N.V.R. and -»- R.Aux.A.F. Squadrons will fly over- head when H.M. the King inspects terri- torial forces in Hyde Park on Sunday, October 31st. The formations will be led by 16 Seafires of Nos. 1-831, 1832 and 1833 R.N.V.R. Air Squadrons, fol- lowed by 24 Spitfires representing Nos. 601 (County of London), 604 (County of Middlesex), 600 (City of London), and 615 (County of Surrey) Auxiliary Squad- rons. Last in the fly-past will be 12 of the R.Aux.A.F.s recently acquired jet fighters—six Vampires from 6p% (County of Warwick) Squadron, and six Meteors from 500 (County of Kent) Squadron. A rehearsal of the fly-past will be held on Sunday, October 24th. 605 Honoured ON Saturday, October gth, No. 605(County of Warwick) Squadron, R.Aux.A.F., receive'd the freedom ofStratford-upon-Avon, an honour con- ferred at the same time on the RovalWarwickshire Regt. and the Warwick- shire Yeomanry. The illuminated deedof privilege which was presented to A. Cdre. J. A. C. Wright, Honorary AirCommodore of the Squadron, allows the right on all ceremonial occasions ofmarching through the Borough of Strat- ford-upon-Avon with drums beating,bands playing, colours flying and bayonets fixed." After A. Cdre. Wrighthad acknowledged the honour accorded the Squadron there was a fly-past byVampires of 605 Squadron. Observers' Exercise t • rM ETEORS, Hornets, Mosquitoes andSpitfires, from Fighter Command's No. 12 Group, will take part in a iliree-hour exercise for 15,000 members of the Royal Observer Corps next Sunday after-noon (Oct. 24th). Although some low flying is essential care will be taken todisturb the public as little as possible in populated areas. The main R.O.C.centres in the operation are at York, Norwich, Cambridge, Bury St. Edmundsand Lincoln. Air'war Demonstration THE Commander-in-Chief, Air ForcesWestern Europe, Air Chief Marshal Sir James Robb, will -open this year'sSpecial Senior Course at the School of Land-Air Warfare at Old Sarum, -onSalisbury Plain, on Monday, October 25th. The course lasts a week and willbe attended by senior officers of the Ser- vices and Dominion air force representa-;tives.
