Advertisements. FLIGHT DECEMBER 9TH, 1948 Operation Co-operation In designing the mammoth Brabazon airliner, the Bristol Aircraft Company sought the assistance of Northern Aluminium in enabling the maximum pay- load to be carried by providing materials manufactured to specially close tolerances. With materials to normal aircraft tolerances the estimated loss of payload would have been over 19%. The materials we supplied reduced this figure to a mere 5%. We provided virtually all the aluminium and aluminium alloys used in the Brabazon, comprising nearly an acre of sheet and strip and 16^ miles of extruded sections, ranging in size from .065 lbs. per ft. to 11.08 lbs. per ft. We take particular pride in the Brabazon as yet another example of the value of close co-operation between ourselves and the aircraft manufacturer.
