FEBRUARY 10TH, 1949 THE SAUNDEIIS-ROE SR/45 long range Hying boat PROTEUS PROPELLER TITRRINES Lhree of these 140-ton Saunders-Roe SR/45 flying boats are now under construction. Each will be fitted with ten "Bristol" Proteus engines, arranged in four coupled pairs and two single units, giving an estimated total power output of 35,000 h.p. Chosen also as the power unit for the Mark II Brabazon airliner, "Bristol" Proteus propeller turbines thus have the distinction of powering the two largest types of aircraft now under construction in Britain. The 3,500 h.p. "Bristol" Proteus propeller turbine has been specifically designed to give a high power output for a com- paratively small overall size of engine and to maintain a par- ticularly low fuel consumption. 8/Vf AEROPLANE COMPANY LIMITED ENGLAND
