April 7th, 1949 FLIGHT Section at cooling tower showing engine (left) and transmission. (right) oil tanks. SWING-OPEN DOORS FOR LARGE BULK CARGO Section at engine showing transverse mounting trusses and exhaust bridge ductings. FU|L TANKS UNDtft FLOOR DRIVE-SHAFT IN BOOM REAR DOOR In this excellent cut-away drawing of the Air Horse, "Flight's" chief artist, Max Millar, has illustrated with admirable clarity the physical characteristics of this most unusual aircraft. The power installation, undercarriage geometry and cockpit layout are clearly indicated, and the large volume available either for pas- senger accommodation or freight stowage is readily appreciable. At left is a detail showing the essential elements of the rotor transmission system, engine cooling and exhaust cooling installa- tions. The engine is inclined upward toward the front rotor at 7i degrees, which simplifies shaft angularity problems, and speed reduction is made both at the engine and at each rotor hub.
