Flight, June 9th, 1949. m XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXKXXXXX) • •• ••••••• SOUVENIR BOOKLET TO AID R.A.F. BENEVOLENT FUND Battle of Britain Window at Factory " / remember one night being called out of a meeting of the Defence Committee, to be told that the German bombers were approaching and that the radio beam which directed them was laid on a line which passed near Derby. We would far rather have heard that the beam was laid on Downing Street or that parachutists were dropping in St. James's Park. For all our fighters in the Battle of Britain were powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines and at that time they nearly all came from these works in Derby." These words, spoken by Sir Archibald Sinclair, war-time Air Minister, are quoted in a souvenir booklet commemorating the unveiling, at the Rolls- Royce factory in Derby, of a window dedicated to R.A.F. Battle of Britain pilots. The booklet will be sold in aid of the R.A.F. Benevolent Fund, by branches of the R.A.F. Association throughout the country. The booklet contains many photographs illustrating the ceremony when the window, unveiled by Marshal of the R.A.F. Lord Tedder, was dedicated by the Bishop of Derby (the Rt. Rev. A. E. J. Rawlinson) THE BOOKLET, WHICH HAS 36 PAGES, CAN BE - OBTAINED, PRICE 2s. 6d. POST FREE, FROM THE ROYAL AIR FORCE BENEVOLENT FUND 1, Sloane Street, London, S.W.1 Registered under the War Charitits Ad, 19*0.) •!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX]
