Auxiliary Appointment THE Air Ministry announces that S/L.J. B. Wales has been appointed to command No. 613 (City of Manchester)Squadron, R.Aux.A.F. Beginning his Service career as a second lieutenant inthe Manchester Regiment, S/L. Wales transferred to the R.A.F., in which hewas commissioned in 1940. After train- ing, which included a course at No. 1School of Army Co-operation, he flew with No. 4 Squadron until he went over-seas at the end of the year. From June, 1942, until May, 1943, heflew from Colombo on Army Co-operation duties. He joined Air Command, South-East Asia in 1944 an<i returned to England the following year. In March,1947, he joined 613 Squadron, having been demobilized the previous year, andwas awarded the Efficiency Medal in 1948- R.A.F. Club for ClimbersT HE R.A.F. Mountaineering Associa-tion is to hold a fortnight's climb- ing meet near Chamonix, in the FrenchAlps. Members of the French Alpine Club have promised to assist by puttinghuts at the disposal of the party and helping in route-finding. Led by thechairman of the Association, W/C. A. J. M. Smyth, O.B.E., D.F.C., theparty will leave England on July 30th. Membership of the Association, whichwas formed some 18 months ago, is open to former and serving officers and airmen. Courses for WJl.A.F. in Germany /"VUARTERLY general service training\J, courses, with an intake of 20 to 26 airwomen, are being held for W.R.A.F.members of B.A.F.O., Germany. At the first passing-parade, which took placerecently, course members were inspected by A.V-M. J. Seward and G/O. J. L. A.Conan-Doyle, the Air Officer in Charge of Administration and the W.R.A.F.Staff Officer, respectively, of the Com- mand. The courses, which last a fort-night, are primarily designed to improve the administrative knowledge and powersof leadership of junior and potential N.C.O.s. Included in the syllabus arepersonnel administration and women's marriage law. Air Force law, welfare,equipment, catering, drill, P.T., hygiene, advice on general education, currentaffairs and talks by a R.A.F. chaplain.
