741 SKYROCKET Douglas's Missile-like Supersonic Research Aircraft The U.S. Navy's Douglas D.558/2 Skyrocket, designed solely for high-speed research, and powered by a turbojet and rocket motors, is reported to have achieved supersonic flight on several occasions. This lower view shows the mobile unit, with winches and ramps, specially developed for fuelling and servicing. The trailer is able to " kneel" to receive the aircraft.
