Neville Dake, with a Hawker Fury, established London- Rome and London-Karachi records; four Sea Furies, led by Lt/Cdr. McWhirter, flew from London to Valetta at * 3 624.6 km/hr (387.18 m.p.h.); and a Hornet 3 flown byG/C. Carver gave Britain the honour of the London- Gibraltar record at an average speed of 701.5 km/hr(435.87 m.p.h.).
