^FLIGHT, 12 January 1950 CIVIL AVIATION NEWS • • • Stevenson, deputy chairman and a director of B.S.A.A.C.respectively, were appointed to the Board of B.O.A.C. and Sir Clement Wakefield Jones, at present a director of B.O.A.C., isto be a director of B.S.A.A.C. * * * Consequent upon the change of Government in Australia, adirect air link between Wellington, New Zealand and Sydney is expected to materialize. The new Prime Minister of New-Zealand, Mr. S. Holland, has made a statement which is thought to indicate that the new Governments of both coun-tries, unlike their predecessors, will be open to consider approaches for the operation of such a service by private com-panies. In this connection A.N.A. is expected to submit proposals in the near future. * * * T.W.A. is seeking in the New York District Court a per-manent injunction which will prohibit P.A.A. from con- ducting flights to Rome for the Holy Year ceremonies. T.W.A.claims to be the only U.S. airline holding a certificate of "convenience and necessity" issued by the C.A.B. for theU.S.-Rome route; the company alleges that P.A.A.'s attempt to inaugurate Rome services is but another part of its cam-paign to become America's sole foreign carrier. . . , * * * •. • With the inauguration on January 10th of a Stratocruiser service between New York, Prestwick, Amsterdam and Frank-furt, American Overseas Airlines are now serving more European destinations by Stratocruiser than any other carrier.Considerably increased seating capacity on European routes ivill result from the replacement of Constellations by Strato--ruisers on these services. . ,__ •• _ _. • •- * * - *" '•' '... . — . In an effort to re-stock the streams of New Guinea, Qantas isflying 20,000 live trout under charter to an experimental station in the highlands at Nondugl, The problem of keeping the fishalive necessitated the installation in a DC-3 of eighteen five- gallon tanks, with four pumps to provide continuous aerationof the water both in the air and on the ground. ACE TRICKS KINA/ES : To save travelling time between his estate and the business centres of Malaya, Mr. Rolph Grut of Btirnam Oil Palms, Ltd., is using the Chrislea Super Ace seen above. The aircraft provides an effective means of avoiding the danger of ambush by terrorists and incidentally enables its owner to enjoy cool air instead of suffering the sweltering heat and dust of the Malayan roads. r . .;,, An action has been instituted which seeks to establishAmerican ownership of the two former Chinese Nationalist airlines. The majority of the staffs of the two companies—China National Aviation Corporation and Central Air Transport Corporation—recently went over to the Communists and theownership of the companies' property, including 70 aircraft, is now being disputed before the Supreme Court. Maj.-Gen.Claire Chennault has submitted that the companies were pur- chased from the Chinese Nationalist Government on behalf olCivil Air Transport Inc. of Delaware, which, it will be recalled, recently purchased Pan American Airways' 20 per cent interestin the China National Aviation Corporation. . , . R. Ae. C. Aviators' Certificates IN spite of the difficulties with which the clubs and schools arecontending, recent lists of R.Ae.C.
