Argonaut service between London and Calcutta will from January 19th call at Rome instead of Malta. * * * The Australian Minister of Civil Avia-tion has announced the .signature of tin- projected air agreement between Ceylonand Australia. For a trial period each airline will have the right to operate amonthly DC-4 flight or its equivalent The agreement provides for Ceylon t<>operate from Colombo to Sydney vui intermediate points and for Australia tofly its U.K. services via Ceylon. * # * Following the recent suspension of rail and river traffic by Pakistan, five Indianairlines are flying freight to Assam and Tripura states. In ten days the airlinescarried a million pounds of jute and two million oranges to Calcutta, returningwith i,20o,ooolb of miscellaneous supplies for the two states. All American Overseas Airlines transatlantic services are now being operated from Idlewild instead of La Gunrdia, from which the company's last scheduled flight was made on January 9th; it was the 19.522nd transatlantic crossing since the airline commenced these services in the summer of 1942. * # * Meeting recently at Taomina (Sicily) for the sixth session of the I.C.A.O. Juridical Committee, representatives of thirty nations discussed the problems of third-party risks and the responsibility of aircraft owners. * * * S.AS. announce that free coach transport is now available between Renfrew and Prestwick (and vice versa) by previous arrangement with their offices at either place. The company hopes that this facility will result in increased bookings to New York and Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm by its DC-6services. * • • The Air Registration Board announces the issue of Noticesto Licensed Aircraft Engineers and to Owners of Civil Aircraft Nos. 2, 4 and 10. Subjects dealt with are respectively, Super-vision of Licensed Aircraft Engineers, Airscrews Approved for use on Civil Aircraft, and Rating and Categories of Engineers'Licenses. • • * A new "air-coach" service is to be operated between LosAngeles, Chicago and New York. Seventy passengers will be carried in each aircraft, and the service comprises daily returnflight to New York, a distance of approximately 3,000 miles.
