FLIGHT, 26 January 1950 SERVICE AVIATION . , i - 1945, until the end of that year, when hebecame Director of Intelligence at Supreme H.Q., S.E.A.C. His war-time appointments includedthe command of two bomber stations, a year as Chief Intelligence Officer ofBomber Command and, in 1944, a simi- lar post with the Allied ExpeditionaryAir Force. Born in 1899, he was first commissioned — in the R. N. A. S. — in 1917- A.V-M. Pendred's successor as A.C.A.S.(Intelligence) is A. Cdre. N. C. Ogilvie- Forbes, C.B.E., who takes the actingrank of Air Vice-Marshal. A.V-M. Ogilvie-Forbes recently returned fromMoscow, where he had been Air Attache since April, 1948. Formerly, from 1945,he was Head of the R.A.F. Delegation in Belgium and Air Attach^ in Brussels.He is 49, and joined the R.A.F. in 1922 from Cambridge University.A. Cdre. L. F. Sinclair, G.C., C.B.. C.B.E., D.S.O., has been appointedAssistant Commandant of the R.A.F. Staff College, Bracknell. He recently re-turned from Germany, where, after having taken the 1946 course at theImperial Defence College, he went early in 1947 as S.A.S.O. of No. 84 Group,B.A.F.O. After the disbandment of 84 Group in the following December hecommanded the Tempest Wing at Guter- sloh until late in 1948, when he wasappointed to command No. 2 Group on its re-formation in B.A.F.O. after havingbeen disbanded for 18 months. During the war A. Cdre. Sinclaircommanded the Tactical Light Bomber Force in North Africa and Italy and wasafterwards S.A.S.O., Balkan Air Force. He is 41, and was commissioned fromCranwell in 1928. Until recently S.A.S.O. of 41 (Mainten-ance) Group, A. Cdre. G. Scarrott has been appointed Director of Equipment(B) at the Air Ministry. The new Direc- tor, who served with the WarwickshireYeomanry and the R.F.C. in the first world war, has-been with the R.A.F.'sEquipment Branch since 1923. Two new Medical Branch appointments announcedare those of A. Cdre. J. MacC. Kilpatrick, who becomes Deputy Director-General ofR.A.F. Medical Services, and A. Cdre. POLICE PARADE: At a ceremony in Kensington Gardens on January 16th, No. 137- Flight, No. 5 District, London, received the de Putron Trophy from Maj.-Gen. Tans, Governor of the Hague, here seen inspecting the Flight with Air Marshal Sir Leslie Hollinghurst. The Trophy is awarded annually to the R.A.F. Police unit gaining highest marks for efficiency, turnout and drill. F. E. Lipscombe, who succeeds him asDirector of Hygiene and Research at the Air Ministry. New air attaches to Ankara andMoscow are, respectively, G/C. R. J. Legg and G/C. I. C. Bird; both officerstake the acting rank of Air Commodore. • A. Cdre. Legg, who was Air Attache inAthens from 1939 to 1941 and in Wash- ington from 1945 to 1947, has untilrecently been a D?puty Director of Policy (Air Staff) at the Air Ministry. The newMoscow attache, A. Cdre. Bird, was formerly in New York, as deputy to thePermanent R.A.F. Member of, and as Chief Staff Officer to, the Military StaffCommittee of II.N.O. (R.A.F. element).
