It is hoped that a further similar visifwill be arranged next summer and that the party will again include boys fromthe R.A.F. Benevolent Fund's own school at Vanbrugh Castle, Bfackheath. Warned Off /CONTROLLED areas of 100 miles'V^ radius have been established round the major atomic production centres ofthe United States, together with a 10,0- mile-deep zone along the coast from Nor-folk to Maine. Reward for Efficiency THE winner of the Women's Junior AirCorps "Flight to Australia" com-petition, chosen from seven finalists by a selection board in London, is Unit Cdr.Doreen Pennell. Stratospheric Thought-reading T 1STENERS to B.B.C. programmes-L' last week heard the most remark- able of the Piddingtons' thought-readingbroadcasts, when Mrs. Piddington, in a B.O.A.C. Stratocruiser on a trainingflight over the west of England, accur- ately repeated (over the aircraft R/T.system) thoughts "transmitted" by her husband in a London studio. Capt. W. S. ("Bill") May, the Cor-poration's C.F.I, at Filton, left the flight deck during the broadcast to say a fewappropriate words to listeners. Inci- dentally, clarity of speech was easily thebest we have ever heard from an aircraft in the air; modulation was perfect, andthe only background noise was the gentle rumble of the four Wasp Majors. TURBOPROPOSITION^fSome time ago it was suggested that the Convairliner would be suitable in rnai*y"ways to take turboprop power units. The suggestion is now being serioinfyeo«rt^»i;ed, with two Allison T-38 turboprops in mind. The illustration shows ho^Aviation Week's artist thinks it might look. Incidentally, Convair produced the first American tur*bop"fop installation, the XP-81 (TG-100 in the nose, 1-40 in the tail).
