FLIGHT. 23 February 1950 DH More Profit per Ton-mile— and on Many More Ton-miles Compared with the most modern liners in its class now in world service, the Comet, by reason of its great speed, is expected to be about twenty per cent, cheaper per ton-mile. Furthermore its speed enables it to do at least half as much work again per year and with earnings in proportion. Speed thus yields a multiple economy. These figures are based on the performance of the Comet to-day; developments are already under way which will improve them. Moreover the Comet's incomparable simplicity brings further intangible but sub- stantial advantages in maintenance, affecting operational convenience and cost.
