FLIGHT, 6 July 1950 55 Vickers Valetta military transport (two Bristol Hercules engines) taking off with an Airspeed Horsa glider in tow. Avro York transport, with four Rolls- Royce Merlin engines. The York uses many components of the Lancaster. This special Flight drawing shows the ambulance version of the Handley Page Hastings, which will take 32 stretcher cases and 24 sitting cases. Otherwise arranged, the Hastings is suitable for use as an airborne-troop carrier, paratrooper (with ex- ternal containers), freighter, heavy external stores dropper (with crews), and pannier and supply dropper. It also has equipment for glider towing. orThe Avro 504K was probably the world's most famous training air- The D.H.6 trainer, otherwise known as "Clutching Hand o craft. A later development (504N) had an Armstrong Siddele/ Lynx. "Sky Hook." Note that the elevators touch the ground.
