4 APRIL 1952 FLIGHT 77 SITUATIONS VACANT I West African Airways Corporation invite applications • for vacancies which will shortly occur due to their expansion. 2 Two radio engineers holding radio engineer's licences • in categories "A" and "B." but applicants with single category "A'' will be accepted. Applicants without licence cover will be considered provided they are willing to take the licence examination after they have gained practical experience in West Africa. Preference will be given to men with experience on AD.97/108. AD.iff? and AD.7092 3 Two electricians holding an "X" (electrical) licence • are required for flight and/or overhaul work. Training in the United Kingdom will be given to the selected appli cants to enable them to obtain a Hermes IV electrical endorsement. Unlicenced electricians will be considered for these vacancies provided they have sufficient experi ence in the type of work they are expected to undertake 4 The commencing salaries will be determined by • experience and Qualifications and the minimums offered are: Unlicenced engineers basic salary £570 Single licence engineers basic salary £61 Double licence engineers basic salary £690 IN addition to the above basic salaries, expatriation pay at the rate of £150 p.a. is payable to unlicenced engineers and £200 p.a. for those with licence, plus a cost- of-living allowance amounting to 10 per cent of the basic salary. These sums are payable with effect from the date the selected applicants arrive in West Africa. 5 Free fully furnished modern quarters are provided • for all staff, but due to accommodation difficulties, initial separation from families for a few months is necessary. 6 Leave in the U.K. with free passages for the employee • and his family is granted at the rate of l/5th of the period of time served in West Africa, leave will normally be granted after a tour of 15 months. 7 The following schemes are at present in operation: • Sickness and accident scheme, car purchase scheme and a pension scheme. Brief details of the pension scheme are as follows: (a). Employees contributions 6 per cent of salary. Employers. 16 per cent. <b) Retiring age 55, but staff may elect to retire at 50. after 10 years' service. MINIMUM qualifications will be a current airline transport pilot's licence and general flight radio telephony operator's licence. Applicants with a senior commercial pilot's licence may be considered for vacancies as first officers. (1) First officers. ABed 30 years and under. Salary according to nualincaiions and experience within the range of £1,335 to £1,515 per annum, plus cost-of-living allowance whilst in West Africa of approxi mately £100 per annum. FREE fully furnished accommodation is provided in West Africa but married men on initial engagement may be required to serve for a few months before being joined by their families. FREE return passages are provided each tour for the employee, his wife and up to two children, not exceed ing 18 years of age. TOURS of duty will be from 12 to 15 months with leave on full salary at the rate of one-fifth of the period of service in West Africa. CONDITIONS of service will include membership of a pension scheme, allowing retirement at 45, subject to a minimum of 10 years' service (retirement five years earlier may be arranged by mutual agreement). In the case of employees not completing 10 years' service, a gratuity arrangement exists whereby, subject to a mini mum of four years' service, a payment at the rate of £160 for each full year of service will be made on termination of appointment. A CONTRIBUTORY medical scheme exists for employees and families subject to a contribution of 10s. per head per month.
