ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH N.F.IIs BECOME JET NIGHT WATCHMEN OF WESTERN EUROPE Flight, 29 August 1952 Advert Night exercises show improved defences as N.F.II jet night fighters join N.A.T.O. Air Forces. Europe's night defences are now becoming jet powered. As the pencil-nosed Armstrong Whitworth N.F. ll's roll off the production lines at Coventry, more and more R.A.F. and N.A.T.O. squadrons are converting from piston-engined aircraft to these fast climbing radar night watchmen. Recent intensive exercises over Western Europe demonstrated by its high degree of serviceability the quality and no less the signi ficance of the N.F.ll in the general plan of defence. In addition to serving in RAF Commands the N.F.ll figures prominently in the Air Force plans of N.A.T.O. countries. Valuable jet night training means that sound opera tional techniques will be ready if required. "PENCIL NOSE" of N.F. 11 which houses radar scanner and radar units, helps preserve essential cleanness of aerodynamic lines. N.F.I 1'i in squadron markings peel off from neat formation. Manoeuvrability and long range are performance features.
