Republic F-84 Thunderjets (Royal Norwegian A.F.). THE WORLD'S AIR FORCES . . . 652 FLIGHT Douglas Dakota (Royal Norwegian A.F.). NICARAGUA =¥ , The Nicaraguan Army Air Force • NO INFORMATION is forthcoming from the Nicaraguanauthorities on the composition and equipment of their national Army Air Force. In post-war years Lockheed P-38 fighters andBoeing B-29 Superfortress bombers were acquired, in addition to Douglas Dakotas for transport and three types of Americantrainer, the North American AT-6, Boeing PT-13 and Fairchild PT-19. NORWAY The Royal Norwegian Air Force • - - ; KNOWN BY the British contraction R.No.A.F., this Service isdivided into four Air Command areas, the commanders of which are responsible to the Commander-in-Chief through Head-quarters, R.No.A.F. Directly responsible to the C-in-C. also are the Air Commander, Norway; the Director of MaterialCommand and Depot; the Inspector General; the Inspector for Airfield Defence; and the Air Surgeon General. Squadrons andair-defence components are controlled by the C-in-C. through Air Commander, Norway, who himself exercises control throughsector operations centres. There are eleven squadrons, of which eight are fighter and fighter/bomber units. Primary role of the Force is air defence, but the organizationalso provides for tactical support of land and naval forces. Pending the arrival of North American F-86K single-seat all-weather fighters, the fastest machines in service are the Republic F-84G and E Thunderjet—the "G" for interception and groundsupport and the "E" for photographic reconnaissance. The Lockheed T-33A is the standard jet advanced trainer; initialtrainers are the Fairchild PT-19 and Fairchild PT-26. The Catalina PB5Y-A serves for maritime duties, and Bell 47D1 andG helicopters for air/sea rescue. For transport there are Douglas C-47s and for communications de Havilland Canada Otters andNoorduyn Norseman Mks 4 and 6 on wheels, skis or floats. Principal commanders: C-in-C. Lt-Gen. F. Lambrechts; Air Com-mander, Norway, Maj-Gen. B. F. Motzfeldt; Chief of Staff, Maj-Gen. E. Tufte Johnsen. PAKISTAN The Royal Pakistan Air Force IN SEPTEMBER 1947, shortly after this Air Force came intobeing, a flying training school was established at Risalpur and this has since become a college. Two ordinary schools, run on thelines of English public schools, were subsequently set up, and in the creation and operation of these the R.P.A.F. have beenassisted by Air Service Training, Ltd. Future officers and technicians for the Service are selected from the young students,and boys in other schools in the country are provided with the opportunity to join the Shaheen Air Training Corps, thusproviding them with an entry into aeronautical activities. University air squadrons have also been organized, whereflying training is given on Tiger Moths and Auster Aiglets. Training at Risalpur takes place on Harvards, and the full courselasts three years. Successful candidates pass on to Mauripur for conversion on to operational types of aircraft. Technicians aretrained at the R.P.A.F. Apprentices' Training School at Jorangi Creek (Karachi). Besides training its own personnel, Pakistan Bell 47 (Royal Norwegian A.F.). Fairchild PT-19 Cornell (Royal Norwegian A.F.). sends a considerable number of cadets to the United Kingdom,Australia and the United States, both for aircrew and for technical training, and some of them have won high awards during their stay.The most modern Pakistani fighters are Vickers-Superrnarine Attackers. Hawker Fury fighter/bombers are also in service, asare Bristol Freighters for transport and Halifaxes for bombing. In succession to A.V-M. L. W. Cannon, A,V-M. A. W. B.Mcdonald has been designated as C-in-C, Royal Pakistan Air Force. PARAGUAY The Paraguayan Air Force THIS FORCE is thought to consist mainly of American-builtlight transport and training aircraft, the former being Beechcrafts. Among the trainers are North American Harvards, Boeing PT-17sand Fairchild PT-19s. Vickers-Supermarine Attackers (Royal Pakistan A.F.). Hawker Furies (Royal Pakistan A.F.).
