Charac-teristics attributed by Aviation Week to this forthcoming all-weather fighter includeBristol Olympus turbojets and a redesigned, thinner wing. It is stated that the thickness/chord ratio of the wing will be high at the wing/nacelle intersection, change rapidlyto a low value, and then stay constant to the tip. The Olympuses will be "handed" inorder to power a single midships accessory section. U.S.A. McDonnell F-101 Voodoo. Three ver-sions of this long-range single-seat super- sonic fighter are the subject of a 1330 mcontract recently placed by the U.S.A.F. and bringing McDonnell's backlog to$601 m. The first machines to be built under the contract will be F-101B long-range intercepters, destined for Air Defense Command. The number of F-101 A long-range escort fighters to be produced for Strategic Air Command is increased, as is Aerodynamically one of the cleanest heli- copters yet built, the Cessna CH-1 (left) is claimed to be able to hover at heights in excess of 15J000ft while carrying two people. With a load increase of 400 Ib its hovering ceiling is lljOOOft. Top speed is 122 m.p.h. at sea level. Taking off beyond the CH-1 is a Martin 404. This U.S.A.F. light-bomber development of the A3D Sky- warrior is rumoured to be proving lesssuccessful than its naval counterpart. One has, nevertheless, arrived at KirtlandA.F.B. Special Weapons Centre, New Mexico, for tests. France S.O.4050 Vautour. The spring of 1957is the date now given for the first deliveries of Vautour light bombers to the FrenchAir Force. Some months previously the first all-weather fighter variants and tacticalsupport versions will have been handed over. Briguet 763 Deux-Ponts. The Breguet works are preparing for the production of a new series of Deux-Ponts to meet an order now under negotiation, with a view to establishing two heavy transport groups for the French Air Force. The creation of these groups has been provided for in the 1955 budget. It is said that the decision was largely based on the Deux-Ponts' three years of trouble-free service with Air France, and on transport and parachuting tests, including heavy-dropping. U.S.S.R. 11-20 Transport. It can now be confirmedthat the 11-20 transport, used for delivering high-priority cargoes, including newspapermatrices, on Aeroflot internal services, is a straightforward conversion of an 11-28 lightbomber.
