FLIGHT, 30 December 1955 965 AIRCRAFT INTELLIGENCE The helicopter is the Czech-designed-and- built H.C.2, o note concerning which appears on this page. The Lockheed Lightning, photographed recently at Blackbushe when returning to the U.S.A. from a Middle East assignment, belongs to World Wide Surveys, Inc. This is almost certainly the first Lightning seen in this country since about 1946. charter them to other operators "in orderto cover the growing volume of air trans- port." The qualities of the Armagnac (a91-seater) have been amply demonstrated during lengthy service on the Indo-Chinaroute (130 nights, totalling 1,200 flying hours). Czechoslovakia H.C.2 Helicopter. Illustrated on this pageis the H.C.2 ultra-light helicopter, powered by a Praga D engine of 80 h.p., which givesit a speed of 80 m.p.h. and a ceiling of 10,000ft. The second seat can be removedto make room for freight or a stretcher. The designer responsible is J. Slechta, ofthe Central Bohemian Machine Works. 1 Great Britain Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer. Regis-trations G-AOEN, O, P and R have been allocated to the second, third, fourth andfifth Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneers. The first Twin Pioneer is registered G-ANTP. U.SJV. Martin XP6M-1 SeaMaster. The Sea-Master prototype which crashed recently, killing three Martin employees and a U.S.Navy officer, had flown for more than 50 hr since its completion. It was the first proto-type and the flight trials will now proceed with the second machine. Lockheed C-130 Hercules. About 20 ofthese turboprop assault transports have now been completed and production rate isbeing advanced to six machines a month. McDonnell XV-1. The second prototype of this convertiplane is now flying and differs from the first in the design of the rotor hub and skids, and in having fewer windows. Piasecki YH-16A. A maximum speed of166 m.p.h. has been attained by this, the world's largest helicopter. This figure is10 m.p.h. above that achieved by the Sikorsky XH-39, which holds the officialhelicopter speed record. The YH-16A has now completed more than 20 hours' flying. Boeing B-52D. The foregoing designa-tion applies to the version of the B-52 Stratofortress bomber as now in produc-tion at Wichita. Gross weight has been increased to 400,000 lb and the drop tanksare of larger capacity. The designation B-52C applies to the Seattle-built version. U.S.A.F. Bombers. Mr. Donald A.Quarles, U.S. Air Force Secretary, declared recently that America was superior in thenumber and variety of atomic weapons and the aircraft required to deliver them. Ofthe Convair B-58 supersonic bomber—the Hustler—ht said, "We are very muchinterested in it but will reserve judgment until we know more about it." France S.E. 2010 Armagnac. M. Crouzier,Secretary of State for Defence and Armed Forces, lately signed a contract concern-ing the seven Armagnacs.
